“A super-intelligent AI will be extremely good at accomplishing its goals, and if those goals aren’t aligned with ours, we’re in trouble.”

Introduction
The thing we call AI meaning computers doing intelligent things is the manifest destiny of computer science. The amazing AI applications we see today are just the tip of an iceberg, as machine learning capabilities continue to evolve, and scientists get closer to achieving general AI, there will be different theories and speculations regarding the future of AI. These two are currently popular;
The first is based on the fear of a dystopian future, where super-intelligent killer robots take over the world, either wiping out the human race or enslaving all of humanity, as depicted in many science fiction narratives.
The other theory predicts a more optimistic future, where humans and robots will work together and humans using artificial intelligence as a tool to enhance their life experience.
Bill Gates is an optimist and he agrees with the second theory.
Bill Gates' article, "The Age of AI Has Begun," discusses the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to transform various industries. He notes that the advancements in AI technology have allowed machines to learn and solve problems on their own, which is changing the way people work and live.
He described the two significant technological advancements that he has witnessed during his lifetime. The first was the development of a graphical user interface, which became the foundation for modern operating systems, including Windows. The second was OpenAI's successful creation of an artificial intelligence capable of passing an Advanced Placement biology exam, which Mr Gates had challenged them to do. He believed the challenge would take years, but the team completed it in just a few months. Gates was impressed by OpenAI's progress and considers their breakthrough to be a significant achievement in the field of artificial intelligence.
Climate Change
In the case of climate change, he notes that the world's poorest people, who did the least to contribute to the problem, are suffering the most. Mr Gates is excited about the potential of AI to address these issues and believes that governments and philanthropy will need to play a significant role in ensuring that AI reduces, rather than contributes to inequity.
Productivity & Health
Gates acknowledges that AI raises many questions and concerns, including workforce disruption, legal and privacy issues, and the potential for biased algorithms. However, he believes that AI can help empower people at work, save lives, and improve education.
In poor countries, where the majority of under-5 deaths occur, AI will be especially important to help health workers be more productive and help patients get advice on how to deal with health problems. Additionally, AI will accelerate the rate of medical breakthroughs by helping to develop drugs, predict side effects, and figure out dosing levels.
‘The development of AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the internet, and the mobile phone.’
— Bill Gates on his blog
Education
On education, he said, the promise of computers to revolutionize education has not been fulfilled, despite the development of educational games and online resources. However, Mr Gates predicts that AI-driven software will finally deliver on this promise within the next five to ten years, tailoring content to students' interests and learning styles, measuring their understanding, and providing immediate feedback.
AI can also assist teachers and administrators in assessing student understanding and advising on career planning. However, AI will require training on diverse datasets to ensure they are unbiased and reflect different cultures. Furthermore, the digital divide must be addressed to ensure that low-income students are not left behind. While some teachers worry that students may use AI to write essays, educators are adapting by finding creative ways to incorporate the technology into their work.
Bill the Optimist
He talked about the potential explosion of companies in the field of AI, focusing on advancements in hardware and software. The hope is that innovative chips will enable running AI on personal devices rather than relying on cloud computing. On the software side, algorithms will improve. However, it remains to be seen whether many specialized AI will be needed or if it will be possible to develop an artificial general intelligence that can learn any task. The competition is expected to be fierce in both areas.
Mr Gates suggests three principles that should guide the public conversation about AI, which will continue to dominate discussions for the foreseeable future.
Firstly, fears about the downsides of AI should be balanced with its potential to improve people's lives.
Secondly, governments and philanthropy should ensure that AI is used to reduce inequity, as market forces alone are unlikely to prioritize the needs of the poorest.
Lastly, we should keep in mind that we’re only at the beginning of what AI can accomplish. Whatever limitations it has today will be gone before we know it.
He expresses his enthusiasm for the current moment of technological advancement, stating that this new technology has the potential to improve people's lives worldwide. However, he cautions that it's crucial to establish guidelines that prioritize the benefits of artificial intelligence over its potentially negative consequences and ensure that those benefits are accessible to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status. Mr Gates concludes that the Age of AI is a time of both opportunities and responsibilities.
PAST GREATS
EMANUEL SWEDENBORG [February 1688 – March 1772]
Emanuel Swedenborg was an 18th-century Swedish scientist, philosopher, theologian, and mystic. He made significant contributions to the fields of mathematics, engineering, and natural science, and is also known for his spiritual teachings and religious writings. Swedenborg claimed to have had visions of heaven, hell, and the spiritual world, which he believed were a result of his spiritual awakening and divine revelation.
Swedenborg's spiritual teachings, which were based on his mystical experiences, emphasized the importance of living a good life and cultivating a strong connection to God. His ideas had a significant impact on the New Church, a religious movement that was founded after his death and continues to this day. Despite his contributions to science and philosophy, Swedenborg's spiritual teachings remain his most enduring legacy, and his writings continue to inspire and influence people around the world.
Random Tech Facts
There will be more AI assistants than people in this world. Forecasts indicate that there will be 8.4 billion AI-powered digital voice assistant units in the world by 2024, which surpasses the total global population.
